"It Made My Day - Little Moments of Win" Blog

I came across this site recently and had to blog about it. It's a blog of "little moments of win" - small nuggets of goodness. Some funny, some poignant, and almost all are smile-inducing. I admit there are a few juvenile ones in there, but still. It's mostly cool.

> Check it out here
.

Some faves (IMMD=It Made My Day for the uninitiated):
Before an exam, after whole-nighter of studying, me – exhausted screamed out loud “Somebody save me”. My boyfriend pushed me with two fingers and said “Ctrl+S”. IMMD

When my mom saw the commercial for The Beatles Rockband, she thought John Lennon was Jesus Christ. IMMD.

While at work, I received a phone call from a James Raspberry, but since caller ID does last name first, it showed up as “Raspberry Jam” IMMD

The 3 year-old I was babysitting was showing me her stuffed animals. There was her cat Fluffy, her dog Woofy, and of course, her unicorn – Horny. IMMD.

I was eating a donut with a friend’s 15 month old daughter. She asked what the hole was for and I asked “What do you think?” she said ” That’s where you put the bacon”. IMMD

I work for AT&T and was explaining to a customer why he needed the data plan for the iphone. He was upset and exclaimed that it was just one more way Bill Gates was going to get all of his money. I said “Actually sir, I promise you that Bill Gates is not getting any of your money from the iphone.” IMMD

Sitting in my Student Advisor’s office I saw she had three trays labelled “in”, “out”, and “shake it all about!” IMMD.

On my way to work I passed a guy on campus who was dressed in a snazzy shirt-tie combo… and the batman utility belt. IMMD

"Things Your Grandmother Knew" - Blog with Tips from the Past

Thanks to Verity Credit Union's blog (in Washington), I got a great tip on a tip filled blog - "Things Your Grandmother Knew." Here is the background on the site from the author:
Some of the best kitchen and household tips were published during World War II when recycling & rationing was vital not only for the nation's economy, but necessary for the survival of each family.

Some of these tips were handed-down from grandma, but were often they were dismissed as cute anecdotes, stories of 'hard times and hard work' which were not necessary in times of prosperity and a plethora of modern conveniences.

As a result, many of these kitchen and household tips have been lost to history -- unless you collect vintage magazines.

There, in the yellowing brittle pages, you'll find a slew of household tips that are amazingly still practical today.

Each post is a blast from the past - culled from the pages of old magazines. Charming, nostalgic and fun to read. Oh and most are actuallSome of my favorite:

Happiness Habit - Routines to Make your Life Richer & More Productive

Happiness. I came across the following article today that I wanted to share with all of you. It details some great routines you can do throughout the year to "improve your life by creating a few simple traditions that honor your heart and help you connect with people you care about." It seems to be written mostly for women, but the rituals such as the dinner exchange (my favorite idea!), chore team ups, the annual retreats, and the daily habits are ones anyone can enjoy.

Beautiful Examples of Tilt-Shift Photography

Tilt-Shift miniature faking is a creative technique whereby a photograph of a life-size location or object is manipulated to give an optical illusion of a photograph of a miniature scale model. Purists take these types of pictures using a special lens, but regular images can also be manipulated using Photoshop or similar program.

Either way, the results are striking and wonderful to look at. I first saw them in a magazine recently and then the other day, I came across the following blog post and highly recommend it:

Cute Things Falling Asleep

This will make you smile.

There is a blog out there called "Cute Things Falling Asleep," where short videos are posted of (mostly) babies, puppies and kittens...falling asleep. Videos are rated from 1-5 both for cuteness and sleepiness.

> Visit the Cute Things Falling Asleep Blog

CNN recently did a short piece on it too - with some good clips. I like the part where Nick Malis (the owner of the blog) talks about rating a baby video "2" for cuteness...but the mother of the baby thought the baby was a little cuter than that!
